Hey everybody. First of all I just want to tell you if you don't want a big portion just half all the ingredients and than you gonna have like 7 simit. If you do the whole portion you end up with like 14. I did half portion because it's just the two of us so for one morning 7 simit is more than enough. Don't even mention that fresh is always better.
I like to make my dough the night before. I cover it with plastic wrap and a kitchen towel and just leave it out in the kitchen counter till the next morning, and you have freshly baked breakfast simit. Probably you need like one hour in the morning to do them.
For the dough :
250 grams of water
750 grams of flour
20 grams of fresh yest or 1 pack of dry yeast
1 tablespoon of salt
3 tablespoon of olive oil
1 teaspoon of sugar
For the syrup mixture:
4 tablespoon of golden syrup
3/4 water
For the rolling:
sesame seeds(I used mixed seeds)
If you do them right away than preheat your oven. Warm the water a little bit, add the sugar and the yeast to it. Leave it to work for 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes add the flour, oil, salt to it and knead it together until you have a nice dough, it shouldn't be sticky. You should end up with a nice, fluffy dough. Cover with plastic wrap and a kitchen towel and leave it to rise for 1-2 hours.
Till you wait you can mix up the golden syrup with the water.
When your dough doubled in size it's ready for rolling. Cut your dough in 14 equal parts, roll each part into a long strip then twist and shape into rounds.
Dip each one into the syrup then into the seeds, place them on a baking tray and let it to rise again for like 30 minutes.
Bake at 220 degrees for 20-25 minutes until it's golden brown.
And you have your perfect breakfast simit ready to eat.
