Scones are a perfect tea-time treat, whether jam-and-cream-topped plain or packed with sultanas, this baked treat is delicious, and damn easy to make. (No sultanas for me, not my favourite thing)
Ingredients
Preheat you oven to 200 degree. Line a pan with baking paper
Add the flour, baking powder in a large bowl, add the butter to it and rub with your fingers until the butter dissolves into the mixture, and the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Pour the milk into the bowl and stir to form a soft slightly sticky dough. Gather together the dough to form a soft, slightly sticky, mass. Work quickly. Don’t over handle the dough or it will be tough and don’t be tempted to roll it out too thinly or you won’t get good deep scones.
Once your dough is made, you want to get them stamped out and put into the oven as quickly as possible. This is because the raising process begins once the ingredients are combined, and you ideally want this to happen in the oven.
Lightly dust the worktop with flour, place the dough in the middle and lightly dust the top with flour. Gently flatten the dough with your hands to 3 cm thick.
Press a round pastry cutter or a glass into the dough to cut out circles. Place them in your baking try, brush the top of the scones with the some milk.
Bake them for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Enjoy!!!
